OH2: Exposure assessment and hazard recognition

Module Description:

Aim

People are subjected to various exposures in their working life. After successful completion of this module, students will be able to analyze the type of exposure, and develop effective counter-measures.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate the working environment with respect to overall exposure and possible contamination
  • Develop the appropriate measurement strategy
  • Record, analyze, and interpret measurement results
  • Critically discuss results and draw conclusions
  • Write report and communicate results

Contents

  • Fundamentals of occupational hygiene and occupational hazards
  • Inhalation exposures: gas, vapors, particles (chemical and biological)
  • Dermal exposures (chemical)
  • Exposures to physical agents (noise, vibration, light, thermal stress, radiation, atmospheric pressure)
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and practical applications
  • Development of measurement strategies and workplace measurements
